CourtPass reaches you by email, text (SMS), WhatsApp and push (in the app). Texts and emails follow the switches on your Notifications screen; push follows your phone's settings.
Where to change it
| Where | How to get there |
|---|---|
| Web | Account → Notifications, or go straight to app.courtpass.com.au/account/notifications |
| iPhone app | Account → Settings (gear) → Texts and emails |
| Android app | Account → Settings → Texts and emails |
All three show the same switches and save to the same place. Changes save as soon as you flip a switch.
Channels
| Channel | What it carries | How it's set up |
|---|---|---|
| Anything you haven't sent to text | Your sign-in email — nothing to set up | |
| Text (SMS) | Time-sensitive messages (door PIN, reminders) | Add a mobile number on the Notifications screen and enter the code we text you |
| Not used yet — no venue sends WhatsApp messages today | — | |
| Push (app-only) | Booking confirmation + PIN, chat messages, academy offers and announcements, balance reminders | Install the iOS / Android app and allow notifications |
Push notifications only exist in the apps. Examples of what arrives by push: your booking confirmation and door PIN, new chat messages from your coach, academy offers and announcements, and account balance reminders.
What the screen shows
Where we reach you lists your verified mobile and your email. Until you add a mobile, every text switch reads Add a mobile number instead of showing a switch that would do nothing.
Each kind of message then shows where it goes right now, for example By email to you@example.com. That line comes from the same rules the system uses to send, so it is the truth rather than a guess. A message goes out once, on one channel: by text if text is switched on and you have a verified mobile, otherwise by email. Switching both on does not get you two copies.
If a line reads Not sent (in amber), nothing will reach you for that kind of message until you switch a channel on. The line says what to do.
If your venue hasn't switched texts on yet, the screen says so. Messages set to go by text come by email until it does. News and offers are the exception: they wait for texts to be switched on.
Your choices
| Kind of message | What it covers | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Session reminders | A reminder before each session you're booked on | Text on, email off |
| Attendance notices | Messages from the club about attendance at training and sessions | Text on, email off |
| News and offers | Club news, offers and events | Off until you switch it on |
Because email is off by default for reminders, a member with no verified mobile gets no reminders until they switch Email on for session reminders. The screen shows this as Not sent — switch on Email to get these.
Always on
These can't be switched off, and the screen lists them with the reason:
| Kind of message | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Bookings and payments | Confirmations, receipts, door PINs, failed payments |
| Cancellations and changes | A session you're booked on is cancelled or moved |
| Closures and safety | Venue closures, lockouts and safety alerts |
Parents and guardians
If you're a parent or guardian, messages about your children come to you, and your switches decide how. The screen names the children it covers. Switching off session reminders by text switches them off for your children's sessions too.
Juniors with their own login see a note that their parent or guardian gets their messages. Their own screen has no switches.
Push notifications
To get push notifications, install the iOS or Android app and allow notifications when prompted. To turn push on or off later, use your phone's notification settings for the CourtPass app (iOS: Settings → Notifications → CourtPass; Android: Settings → Apps → CourtPass → Notifications).
Reminders
Confirmed bookings get a reminder before the session. It goes by text if Session reminders → Text is on and you have a verified mobile, otherwise by email if Session reminders → Email is on. If neither applies, you won't get one. Check the line under Session reminders on the Notifications screen.
News and offers (marketing)
Venues can send news and offers only to members who have switched them on. Switching them on is your consent: the exact sentence shown next to the switch is recorded with the date and time.
To stop them:
- Switch News and offers off on the Notifications screen, or
- Reply STOP to a text from your venue's phone number.
Either way, news and offers stop on every channel, not just the one you replied on. Bookings, cancellations, reminders and safety messages keep coming.
Some venues text from a name (for example JOFLOW) instead of a number, and you can't reply to a name. Those texts tell you which number to text STOP to, or, if the venue has no number, point you to the Notifications screen.
Quiet hours
Each venue sets a quiet-hours window (typically 21:00–08:00 local time). Reminders, attendance notices and news wait until quiet hours end. Bookings and payments, cancellations and changes, and closures and safety go straight away.
Throttle
Per-venue defaults:
- Max 5 non-emergency messages per day to one recipient
- Max 1 marketing per week to one recipient
Throttles are venue-specific and protect you from being spammed. If a venue's throttle is hit, the message is deferred or dropped (you won't see it).
Replies
SMS / WhatsApp replies you send to a venue's number land in their staff inbox. The venue sees your message and can reply directly.
Useful for:
- "I'm running late, will I lose my slot?"
- "Where do I park?"
- "Is the gym open today?"
Replies aren't 24/7 — staff respond during venue hours. Most venues commit to a response SLA (e.g. within 1 hour during ops hours).
Privacy
You own your contact details. CourtPass:
- Never sells / shares with third parties
- Honours opt-outs immediately
Common scenarios
"I'm getting too many messages"
Open Notifications and switch off News and offers, and Attendance notices if you don't need them. Bookings, cancellations and safety messages stay on.
"I'm not getting reminders"
- Open Notifications and read the line under Session reminders. If it says Not sent, do what it says (usually: switch on Email, or add a mobile number).
- Reminders wait out quiet hours, so a late-night reminder arrives in the morning.
- Make sure the booking is
CONFIRMED; cancelled bookings don't get reminders.
"I replied STOP but I still get texts"
STOP turns off news and offers only. Booking confirmations, PINs, cancellations and safety messages keep coming, and they can't be switched off because you need them to use your bookings.
"I want push but not texts"
Install the app and allow notifications for push. On the Notifications screen, switch Text off for reminders and attendance notices. Messages that can't be switched off will come by email instead, so you always have your PIN.
